With the rollout of Structured Literacy for years 0-3 nationwide, we thought we would show you how to use our resources to enhance your SL programme!
Our resources have a bit of a difference - they are hands on and connect specifically to the books; this means you can pick them up and go without too much mahi on your end - we’ve done it for you! (ok, a little bit of printing and cutting, maybe even laminating if you like!)
So just quickly - “A structured literacy approach is recommended for students with dyslexia and those who are having difficulty with decoding because it directly addresses phonological skills, decoding, and spelling.”
A structured literacy approach provides:
explicit, systematic, and sequential teaching of literacy at multiple levels – phonemes, letter–sound relationships, syllable patterns, morphemes, vocabulary, sentence structure, paragraph structure, and text structure
cumulative practice and ongoing review a high level of student–teacher interaction the use of carefully chosen examples and non-examples
decodable texts
prompt, corrective feedback.
From the evidence we see in schools and from teachers we chat too it’s working pretty well. We wanted to create some resources that provide the cumulative practice based on the decodable texts you already have in your schools and… free up a bit of your time… so here we go!
